Head of Department: Mrs Jyotika Ozarkar, Vice Principal
The Department
of Marathi has been at the forefront of academic, research, cultural
and literary activities of the College since its inception in 1965.
Today, it caters to a wide choice of subjects at the undergraduate
and postgraduate levels, and is actively associated with the various
administrative and outreach functions of the College and has been
enhancing its research potential, with the establishment of the
Research Centre for M. Phil. affiliated to the Yashwantrao Chawan
Maharashtra Open University.
The Department
grew to its present height under the guidance of previous Head of
Department: Shri Srihari T. Joshi (HOD –
1965 to 1991), who was a well-known play writer in Marathi and actively
involved in progressive Theatre activity in India and he won various
awards and prizes for his theatrical creations.

Jyotika Ozarkar (MA, M Phil, DHE) – Vice
Principal (since year 2002) and Head. Joined the College in
1977 as Lecturer in the Junior College and joined the Degree College
in 1984. Took over as Head of Department in 1991.

- The
Department has been involved in all literary activities consistently
since its inception, promoting literary test of the students,
theatre activities, elocution skills, creative writing skills
and reading habits among the students through the various co-curricular
wings like Marathi Vangmay Mandal, Arts Forum etc. of the College.
- Department
of Marathi is organising Yearly Preparatory Lectures Series
for TYBA Students of various colleges since 1998. Colleges of
rural and tribal areas like Kulgaon, Wada, Shivale (District
Thane), Khopoli, Mangaon (Raigad), are benefited with these
lecture series.
