Principal Dinesh
Panjwani (b 23 May 1957), academician and administrator,
has been the Principal of Smt Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani
College, Ulhasnagar since 2000; He is the Director of Campus
Development of the Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board
(HSNC Board), of which the College is a part. In the current
academic year he has taken lien from the College to take Charge
as the Principal of R D National College, Bandra, the pioneering
College of the HSNC Board in post independence India.
Principal Panjwani has been instrumental in the establishment
and development of three Colleges - the L H Hiranandani College
of Pharmacy, the Nari Gurshahani College of Law and the H and
G M College of Management Studies at the SCHM Campus in the
past nine years. He is also the Director of College Unit of
the Yashwantrao Chawan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU).
A rank holder graduate of the University of Rajasthan, where
Principal Dinesh Panjwani completed his M Sc, he holds the M
Phil degree of the University of Mumbai. He began his academic
career at KC College as a Lecturer in the Department of Statistics
in 1979, where he worked as the Vice Principal from 1992 to
1998. As the NSS Co-ordinator of the University of Mumbai (on
deputation) from 1998 to 2000, he coordinated the Social Work
activities of 28000 student-volunteers and 280 teachers, designated
as Programme Officers of 160 Colleges.
His interest in research resulted in the formulation of the
3R concept ‘Reach the Reachable Rightly’. Four research
papers of his have been accepted by and presented at leading
International Forums of Adult Education - at New Jersey State
Employment and Training Commission, Trump Plaza, Atlantic City,
New Jersey in America, the 15th EAN Annual Conference, Aristotle
University of Thessaloniki, Greece, at Adults Education Regional
Centre, Ministry of Education and Research, Alaxandru Ioan Qza
University, IASI, Romania and at ALARMP 7th & PAR 11th World
Congress Action Research Standard Ethics Groniningen, Netherlands.
The community publications of Principal Panjwani include a Marathi
Translation of 35 Volumes of the WHO Manual Training in the Community
for People with Disabilities, Articles / Reports on Workers Literacy
Programme for Industrial Workers, Documented guidelines for Literacy
Programmes for the NSS Volunteers of the University of Mumbai
NSS Cell and Reports on the Field Projects with Research Inputs,
undertaken as Regular and Special Camping NSS Projects.
Principal Dinesh Panjwani has pioneered a number of innovative
projects in Community Welfare and Adult Education. The Chief
among these are:
• Learn While You Work - An Adult Literacy Programme for
Industrial Workers
• Community- Based Rehabilitation - A Comprehensive Health
Cum Education program aimed at deprived sections of society
• Formulation of the Adult Literacy Policy Document for
University of Mumbai
• The Good Earth Project on Environment in collaboration
with the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation
• Clean Ulhasnagar – Healthy Ulhasnagar –
a Study of the Civic Amenities provided by the Ulhasnagar Municipal
Corporation
• Clean Up of Waldhuni River at Ulhasnagar
The Outreach-and-Community-oriented aptitude of Principal Panjwani has led him to take active
initiatives in the establishment of the pioneering College level UGC-sponsored Women’s Studies
Centre and the Gandhian Studies Centre at Smt CHM College. He has also pioneered the
establishment of the National Youth Network (NYN) to involve the University Youth on the
nationallevel in the social service sector to reach out to students directly, with
institutions working as facilitators.
