- It was headed by Prof.
T.V. Makhijani for about 20 years. Later he left the college
and joined as Principal at V.E.S. College, Chembur

Reader in Psychology in C.H.M College since 1984. Is a member
of Board of Studies in Psychology, University of Mumbai since
2006. Also Teaching as a Post graduate teacher in Psychology,
Mumbai University(K.V. Pendharkar College). Worked as a Lecturer
and Coordinator of M.Phil. Psychology (YCMOU- CHM Unit).

MAIN
ACTIVITIES
- Teaching
Undergraduate classes with specialization at T.Y. Level.
- Teachers
are engaged in Postgraduate teaching at other centers.
- Completed
Coaching and Guidance for M.Phil under Y.C.M.O.U. during the
year 2007-08, 2008-09, under coordinatorship of Dr. Radha
Shet.
- Teachers
are also engaged in teaching students of Pharmacy, Professional
Courses – BMS, BMM.
- Teachers
are also invited as Guest Faculty by NGOs and other colleges
to deliver lectures/talk on topics that benefits the laypersons.
- 03 teachers
of the Department have completed their M.Phil and Ph.D Course
during the years 1988-1998.
- Besides
acquiring Research Degrees, the Department got actively involved
in undertaking Research projects since 2003 onwards. So far
07 projects have been undertaken, sanctioned by University
Of Mumbai and University Grants Commission and College.
- Teachers
also have attended and Presented Papers in Academic Conferences,
Seminars and Workshops.
- Teachers
of the Department are inducted in B.O.S. of University Of
Mumbai
COMMUNITY
OUTREACH ACTIVITIES
- A Counseling
Project was assigned to the Department by College for IQ/Aptitude
Testing and Personal Counseling for Staff, their wards and students
of C.H.M College during 2004-05.
- Department
bagged a project from Municipals Schools Of UMC for IQ Testing
of Primary School children in the year 2005-06.
- The Department
also got a Project from UMC for Personality Testing of their
Employees during the year 2008-09.
EXTENSION
- The Department
conducts and organizes seminars and workshops for the benefit
of college students and students from neighboring colleges.
- In the
year 2003-04, workshop on “SELF DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGING
EMOTIONS” was conducted by a faculty from AVISHKAR –
ARCHANA SAMARTH.
- A workshop
on “ASSERTIVENESS” was organized by the faculty
Varkha Chulani, a practicing Psychologist in the year 2004-05.
- A workshop
on “IMPROVING RELATIONSHIP AT WORK AND HOME” for
the faculty of CHM and neighboring colleges was organized by
faculty Varkha Chulani, a practising Psychologist in the year
2004-05.
- The college
has MOU with Clayton State College, University of West Georgia,
Atlanta, USA for Faculty Exchange Program. Under this Dr. Catherine
Deering conducted a number of workshops and seminars for students
of various faculties and teachers in the year 2004-05.
- In the
year 2006-07, 2008-09, Mr. Anand Pasarkar, Manager, L&T,
conducted workshop on “KAIZEN” for students of CHM
and other colleges.
- In 2008-09,
in collaboration with Women Studies Centre of the College, a
seminar was organized on “GENDER SENSITIZATION”
by Dr. Nandini Diwan, HOD, Psychology Department, Ruparel College.
- In the
year 2008-09, teachers of Department conducted a project on
“EVALUATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF STUDY HABITS”
for the F.Y.B.A students and then Workshop on “STUDY HABITS”
was conducted for the students who had poor study habits.
CULTURAL
AND COCURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
- Every
year students are encouraged to take part in various cultural
activities organized by the various associations and forums
of the college. Chandi Utsav an Annual event of the college
is also attended and participated by overwhelming response from
the students of Psychology Department.
- In the
year 2007-08, 2008-09, students displayed the exhibits of Group
Project in Science Exhibition which was highly appreciated by
the dignitaries and college faculty. Some key projects were
Music Therapy, Sports Psychology, etc.
- The students
in the year 2007-08 released the Departmental Magazine “PSYCHOSCOPE”
which is being taken by 2009-10 also.
- Every year
the Department organizes Educational Visits for the students
of T.Y.B.A to Mental Hospital, Institutes Of Psychological Help,
American Centre, Old age Homes, etc.
- Students
of T.Y.B.A are encouraged to read and display the articles relating
to Psychology for the benefit of other students.
- Relevant
Movies are shown related to the topics
Such as ‘Devarai’ for Schizophrenia.
PLACEMENTS
- Students
are helped by the teachers in getting the information at various
vacancies in colleges or other institutes
- Teachers
receive such information and forward through e-mails to the
students.
Future
Plans
- UGC XI
Plan has sanctioned the grant for Career Guidance and Counseling
Cell which the Department will be establishing and continuing
working professionally for Students, Teachers and their Wards.
- To start
a Certificate Course in “School Counseling” of one
year duration under the auspices of the University of Mumbai
for B.A. with Psychology Students.
