An extremely vibrant association of the college It has been
successfully enthusing the students about Science for more than
Two decades, nurturing students by scientific talents and thereby
also shaping their overall personality. The Science Associations
provide a platform for the expression of the scientific spirit
of the students.

Science is the effort to understand how the
physical universe works, with observable evidence as the basis
of that understanding; the way of understanding the world.

Learning science beyond the classroom has been the aim of this
association

The light of science is something that the science association
has tried to keep alive at a time when the dividing lines between
science, technology, social systems human values and education
appear to be dissolving and merging.

The
association headed by a faculty , with a committee of faculty
as members functions basically with the efforts of a large number
of students.This enables development of self learning and self
adaptation, interpersonal relations and participation

The
inauguration of the association activities has been taking place
at the hands of eminent persons like Dr Badrinath Athani ( All
India Institute of Physical Medicine), Dr Ajai Singh(Renowned
MedicalPractitioner) , Dr Shirish Pathare (HomiBhabha Centre
for Science Education) Dr S.K Patil (BARC).

The ‘Intercollegiate Competitions’ held in collaboration
with Nehru Science Centre has indeed been a
matter of great prestige and expansion..The concept started
with Prin Dinesh Panjwani. The event consists
of various competitions. Quiz Competitions have sharpened young
minds to acquire intellectual competitiveness. Indeed the Junior
college quiz competition ‘Aavishkaar’
has received overwhelming response with colleges from all over
Mumbai, Thane district and beyond,.Nearly sixty colleges
participate. The ‘Elimination rounds’ and
the ‘Final Rounds’ are held at Nehru Science
Centre whereas the ‘Semifinal Round’ is
held at SMT Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani College. The quiz
consists of multiple choice questions , photographic identifications
, computer assisted scientific puzzles etc. It is a tough task
to break through the practical mind boggling quiz devised by
the scientists of the centre.

Aavesh the intercollegiate skit competition
too receives overwhelming response . It is a way to explain
science with entertainment. It provides a good platform for
students from science faculty to show case their acting talents
along with passing a scientific message

Srujan has been the intercollegiate project
exhibition. Innovations in setting up scientific working projects
in form of models brings to surface creativity of the students
likely to convert them into young scientists.

The ‘Lecture Series’ delivered
by learned personalities coming from presitigious backgrounds
like BARC, TIFR, HomiBhabha Centre, enlighten
students with firsthand knowledge.Dr Aniket Sule (TIFR) , ,
Dr Bhavana Motwani , Dr Prema Gurbaxani are some of them.

Important and historical days like National science day, World
AIDS day , are locally participated by conducting relevant events
like ‘Poster Competitions’ , ‘Presentations’
and ‘Informative Lectures’.

Fascinating experiments of ‘Physics’ by Prof B.D
Chakradeo are a regular feature

‘Awareness’
on various scientific but domestic aspects , the students of
the association bring home by carrying out ‘Street
plays’.

The students are taken for Visits to various
Research Institutes and their constituting laboratories. ‘The
Indian Institute of Technology’ ‘Forensic Sciences
Laboratory’ ,’National Chemical Laboratory’,
‘Inter University Centre for Astronomy’ are some
of them.The authorities extend a warm welcome. There the students
observe , experience and use various equipments and materials
that they would otherwise be reading in their books only.

A
part of the annual celebration of college the ‘ChandiUtsav’
has an important component namely ‘Science Exhibition’
. Both the Junior college and the Degree college participate
in it by putting up about two hundred ‘Project Exhibits’All
this gives a feeling of a true ‘VigyaanUtsav’.

A literary compilation in form of a souvenier , that includes
scientific articles, poems, cartoons, etc written by students
brings out their skills in yet another dimension.

Workshops
on ‘Mushroom cultivation’ , candle making, toy making,
as well as ‘Career guidance’ inculcate vocational
abilities.
The present year has started with a lecture series by a ‘Cambridge
University’ Alumni , Dr S.Barve with a presentation
on ‘ Charles Darwin ‘, as a mark of respect in the
event of his second centenary year . As a mark of participation
to ‘International year of Astronomy ‘ an intercollegiate
essay competition has been initiated .
