The Department of Zoology was established in the college in 1965 affiliated to the University of Pune and was affiliated to the University of Mumbai in1974. Since inception, the department has been headed by:

1. Mr G V Kulkarni (1965-1971)
2. Dr Ms Diwan ( June 1971- Oct 1971)
3. Dr P N Chaudhary ( Oct 1971 to April 1998)
4. Prof N Premkumar (May 1998 to Aug 2007)
who served the department with their dedication and imparted knowledge to the students.

The department offers the three-year integrated degree course in zoology. In the first year the students are introduced to different branches of Zoology- Non Chordates, Chordates, ecology, ethology, Dev Biology, Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology. In the second year they are introduced to applied branches of Zoology like – parasitology, entomology, fisheries, animal husbandry and integrated branches – biotechnology and bioinformatics. In the third year the students are offered four main papers which include comparative anatomy, histology, endocrinology, immunology, Animal Physiology, Molecular biology, Biotechnology, genetics evolution and Biostatistics. Two optional papers in environmental studies involve various ecological parameters both biotic and abiotic and their relationships. To facilitate progression toward curriculum the department conducts excursion / field work which involves visits to national parks sanctuaries, museums, Beaches, Zoos etc. wherein project reports are submitted by the students.

Teachers of the department also prepare students for participating in various competitive scientific activities such as quizzes, exhibition, debate, Seminars, poster presentations etc.
Department has a strong network with neighboring colleges, Birla College Kalyan, BNN College Bhiwandi, GMM College Bhiwandi, RKT College Ulhasnagar, affiliated to the University of Mumbai. Such interactions with faculties and students offers opportunities to get exposed to intellectual, career related development in the field of zoology.

Prof Kamal S Joshi
HOD, Zoology Department
Has a total teaching experience of 28 years. She is involved in PG teaching for the last 10 years. Recently she is working in a Minor Research Project granted by University of Mumabi.

Dr Patricia X Fernandez, Reader In Zoology
Specialization: Endocrinology and Reproductive Physiology.
Has an experience of 28 years. She is a guide for M.Sc. Research, University of Mumbai and M.Phil guide, YCMOU. She has four abstracts and two presentations to her credit. She is a keen lover of nature and actively involved in field work and excursion/ study tour for UG.

Prof Mathew P Cheriyan
Assistant Prof.(Selection Grade)
Specialization: Marine Zoology
He is associated with the department since 1982. He has been working as a member of vigilance squad for different exams conducted by university of Mumbai. He is a member of selection committee of Ball badminton team of university of Mumbai. He is a member of syllabus forming committee. Recently he has registred for Ph.D. in Zoology at University of Mumbai. He is a landscape consultant and has contributed immensely in planning and developing the greenery in CHM campus.

Prof Seema P Ajbani
Assistant Prof. Senior Scale
Specialization: Fish Biology

She has been associated with the college since 1987. She is a recipient of Bill and Melinda Gates foundation travel health award to attend Key-Stone symposium on HIV vaccines at Fairmont Banff Spring, Alberta, Canada in 2000. Presently she is perusing her PhD in biochemistry at NIRRH, ICMR Parel Mumbai. She is actively involved with innovative teaching methodologies career guidance and counseling. He research interest includes HIV pathogenesis, diversity and prevention. She has formal training in different courses in Bioinformatics.

Dr Shashibhal M Pandey
Assistant Professor
Specialization: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
His research interest includes Enzymes biochemistry, Chromatin remodeling and gene expression analysis. He is actively involved in developmental activities of the department. He has worked with eminent scientists at Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and University of Delhi, during his Ph.D. work.

Ms Sarita R. Mishra, Ms Rohma R. Shaikh, Mr Manoj Jotwani, Ms Deepti Deshapande, Ms Archana N Dube are experts who have recently joined the department. They are specialized in Enocrinology, Enomology, Biotehnology and environmental sciencesetc. All of them are actively engaged in various research projects.
