 expressions is a group formed with the objective of developing general communication skills, inculcating reading habits, cultivating debating skills and to encourage students form opinions and articulate their point of view. Weekly discussions on current issues and topics of academic / general interest, elocution and debating sessions, training workshops by invited and inhouse resource persons, screening of movies / documentaries followed by discussions, newsletters are some of the activies planned. Youth Festival:

        Silver Medal at University Level Competition won, who won Gold Medal at Zonal State and National Level for Mimicry 2006 representing University of Mumbai .

        College won Gold Medal Poetry Reciting Competition in Inter Collegiate Youth Festival, 2005-2006).

        Three students were selected to represent University of Mumbai in Cultural Competitions at State, Zonal, National Levels. College bagged silver medal in Debate and Elocution Competition, Bronze Medal in Western Group Songs (2007-2008)

        University of Mumbai won Indradhanushya State Level Inter University Cultural Competitions, West Zone Competition & Overall Natural Championship in Cultural Activities. These Students played important role in it  (2007-08)

        College students participated in Boogie Woogie Dance Competitions on SET Channel and won it 2004, 2005, 2006.

        College was invited to participate in opening program of Channel Me Marathi De Danadan. College was winner of the said Intercollegiate Competition 2006

Community Ties and Cultural Activities:

 

The institution takes immense pride in associating itself with community enrichment programs. The community oriented programs are conducted under the aegis of the UGC sponsored Womens Studies Center and the Gandhian Studies Center.

 

Smt. C.H.M. College is the first college in India and only the college in Maharashtra to be awarded the Womens Studies Centre (WSC) by the UGC.

Established in the academic year 2004-05, the center has organized a national seminar on Progression: Emerging Perspectives in Womens Empowerment and an international conference on Empowerment of Women through Adult Education both of which elicited encouraging response from all the states of India and as many as ten countries. The conference is being followed up by a journal on the themes of the conference.

 

The main highlight of the Womens Studies Center is the Adult Education Program (AEP) in collaboration with the YCMOU, under which women school drop-outs are motivated and sponsored to take up mainstream. In addition the WSC has been organizing yoga sessions, health camps, health surveys, education surveys, poster exhibitions, book exhibitions etc. all of which are oriented towards sensitizing both men and women to gender issues and to formulating viable outreach programs for the disadvantaged section of the society. The programs of the WSC have been supported by the premier institute of yoga in India, Kaivalyadhama, Lonavala and the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation.

 

The UGC sponsored Gandhian Studies Centre (GSC) of the college is the first such center in the University of Mumbai. Established in 2005-06, it has attracted audiences in the likes of police personnel, elected women representatives, journalists, members of the Students Council, NSS volunteers and the like. The GSC has been the co-organizer of the international conference on Empowerment of Women Through Adult Education. Both the centers have organized the Human Rights Week which included activities as varied as debates, elocutions, documentary filmmaking, film screenings, poster competitions, essay competitions etc. The GSC has been consistently organizing Bhajan Prabhats in the college on various occasions. The world-renowned Gandhian Center, Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, Mumbai has been actively associated with the GSC of the college.

 

All these activities of the WSC and the GSC have been actively supported by the NSS units and the Womens Development Cell (WDC) of the college. The WDC is a mandatory body geared towards ensuring gender justice in the professional environment.

 

The National Youth Network (NYN) was a pioneering initiative at training the youth from all over the country in the qualities of leadership and governance. The five-day National Youth Leadership Training Program (NYLTP) drew students from twenty-three universities from all over India.

The college has an active Remedial Coaching Center sponsored by the UGC wherein students of minority communities (Sindhi, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians and Parsees) are given extra remedial coaching to improve their academic performance at the University examinations. The Remedial Coaching classes are language based and subject based.

 

Chandi Utsav is the annual student centric college festival, which seeks to explore the hidden talent of students in performing arts like theatre, dance, music and literature. It provides an opportunity to small-scale women entrepreneurs to exhibit and market their products. Every year the entire proceeds of Chandi Utsav are donated to Shantivan Ashram, a Home for Leprosy patients and the Aged. The College has been celebrating the Diwali Festival at Shantivan for the past six years.

 

Inculcation of National and Moral Values: Bhajan Prabhat, Bhajan Sandhya at college and community places like Maha Ganpati Temple, Titwala, University of Mumbai, Gateway of India etc. Regular visits, inter-collegiate programs and competitions like cycle rallies, marathons, walkathons, quiz competitions; discussions and conferences are organized by the College.

 

Republic Day Cultural Programs are organized in association with the S.D.O office, U.M.C and D.C.Ps office, Ulhasnagar. On the eve of Republic Day, the cultural program is organized at the Community level and is attended by students and staff of various schools of Ulhasnagar.

 

Gaurav Diwas has been conceptualized to commemorate the spirit of the republic nature of the Indian nation, and the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950, which confers on all of us the right to be the citizens of this free nation. On Gaurav Diwas, the college honors the living legends of India for their contribution to public life after independence.
